Mobile home kitchen fire quickly extinguished

- BY JAMES GILBERT @YSJAMESGILBERT

City of Yuma firefighters quickly extinguished a fire that began in the kitchen of a mobile home in an RV park Tuesday afternoon.

The fire, in a mobile home at the Sun Vista RV Park, 7201 E. 32nd St., originated in the trailer’s kitchen at about 4:15 p.m., and was caused by items left cooking on the stove top.

When firefighters arrived on scene they found smoke coming from the front windows of a small mobile home.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire while searching to confirm there was no one in the trailer.

The kitchen of the home sustained significant fire damage, and other parts of the trailer were damaged by smoke. The home was not able to be reoccupied.

No one was home at the time of the fire and the American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the displaced resident.

The Yuma Fire Department would like to remind people that the leading place fires start in the home is in the kitchen. The most common place for the fire to start is the top of the stove and the most common cause is unattended cooking.

Never leave things cooking unattended, turn off burners if you leave the room. Remember to always “Watch what you heat,” YFD officials advise.
