YRMC lifts flu season visitor restrictions
People under the age of 18 are once again permitted to visit Yuma Regional Medical Center as the hospital recently lifted the fluseason visitor restrictions.
The restrictions were implemented in early January. YRMC officially lifted the visitor restrictions Monday.
YRMC’s news release stated that people under the age of 18 are once again permitted in patient care and waiting areas at the hospital’s main campus, as well as the Outpatient Center and Cancer Center.
According to the release, the intent of the restriction was to protect patients, families and staff from unnecessary exposure to the flu virus.
“YRMC implements visitor restrictions during the flu season each year to protect the health of our patients, families and staff members,” said Deb Aders, vice president and Chief Nursing Officer at YRMC in a statement. “We are grateful for the community’s cooperation each year as YRMC works to put our patients’ needs first. I would also like to commend our staff and volunteers for their continued commitment to deliver quality care every day of the year. Together, we are meeting the health needs of this region.”
“Flu” refers to illness caused by a number of different influenza viruses including A, B and H1N1, YRMC’s release showed.
While most healthy people recover from the flu without problems, others are at greater risk for serious complications, YRMC officials said. Those at greater risk include older people, young children, pregnant women and people with certain health conditions.
