Driver arrested after slowspeed chase on freeways

MESA — A man wanted on a warrant out of Pinal County has been arrested after an often slow-speed vehicle pursuit on freeways through Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa.

Authorities say a highspeed chase began about 4 p.m. Monday when the driver of a sedan failed to yield on Interstate 10 west of Phoenix.

It became a slow-speed chase around Tempe after Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers used stop sticks to cause tire damage.

The car drove for miles on its rims during rushhour traffic before it was finally stopped under a freeway when a police vehicle rammed the car, causing it to spin around.

Authorities say they had to use stun guns to subdue the driver before he was handcuffed and taken into custody.

Winning ticket for $60M Powerball game sold in Ariz.

PHOENIX — Lottery officials say the winning ticket for the $60 million jackpot in the latest Powerball game was sold in the small town of Littlefield, Arizona.

Littlefield is about 15 miles from the point where the Utah, Nevada and Arizona borders meet in the northwest part of Arizona.

Lottery officials say the winning ticket for last Saturday’s multi-state drawing was bought at the Scenic General Store in Littlefield.

Arizona Lottery spokeswoman Nikki O’Shea says the winner has 180 days to claim the prize. She says the winner can either take the $60 million over a 30-year annuity or the cash lump sum of $36.4 million.
