Littlewood Fine Art & Community Co-Op opens April 21

-

The Yuma art community is growing this week. Littlewood Fine Art & Community CoOp, 1480 S. 2nd Ave., has scheduled a grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6 p.m. April 21, complete with local food and live music.

Lia Littlewood, who runs the co-op with her twin sister Stefanie, recently moved into their new space to begin teaching free children’s classes in ceramics, painting, welding and other mediums. Other expert teachers will also hold adult and children’s classes there.

Littlewood says the co-op will act as a studio and gallery space, too.

Prospective members can choose between three membership tiers that allow various levels of studio facility use, storage space and commission-free exhibitions. Rates range from $25 per month to $100 per month with discounts for two of the annual rates.

Opening the co-op is something Littlewood said she and her sister have wanted to do for a long time. When a fantastic opportunity arose, she said, they jumped to turn it into a reality.

“It was just such a gigantic space and a great deal,” Littlewood said about the 4,000 square-foot location that formerly housed American Refrigeration Supplies, just north of 15th Street.

Littlewood Fine Art & Community Co-Op will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

It can be reached at (928) 276-3724 or www.LittlewoodCoOp.com.

Barbara Richey, a hairstylist since 1975, recently moved into a private room at the Tropix Spa, 2460 S. 2nd Ave., just south of 24th Street. She was formerly at the In Style Beauty Salon near the Big Curve.

Richey does haircuts, coloring, highlights and perms.

She is currently taking appointments on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and can be reached at (928) 919-0334.

Sergio’s House of Carpets, 1245 S. 4th Ave., apparently closed at the end of March. Its office phone has been disconnected and owner Sergio Fazz could not be reached at other available phone numbers.

Black Bear Diner, which is eyeing a “late 2017” opening at the former Mimi’s Cafe space at 1590 S. Pacific Ave., now has a general contractor for its extensive remodel.
