- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Nine people, including a 14-month-old child, were injured in a collision that occurred in San Luis, Ariz. on Friday night.

At 5:38 p.m. the San Luis Fire Department responded to the area of Juan Sanchez Boulevard and Avenue D for a report of an accident that involved three vehicles.

According to an SLFD news release, as the emergency crew arrived they found a bystander applying CPR to a 54-year-old female lying on the floor.

“They quickly thanked the Good Samaritan, (the) emergency crew took over medical care, (the female) was then airlifted to a trauma center in Phoenix,” the release read.

The release also showed that one female patient had to be extricated using the Jaws-of-Life prior to being transported.

It is stated in the release that “an unresponsive 14-month-old was found in the middle of the highway (and) was actually placed there by the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the accident possibly during the panic and disorientation caused by the incident.”

The 14-month-old was airlifted to a children’s trauma center in Phoenix.

A total of eight patients, including the 14-month-old found in the middle of the highway, were either airlifted by Careflight or taken via ground by ambulances from Somerton/Cocopah, Rural Metro and San Luis ambulance to Yuma Regional Medical Center, the release states.

Additionally, the release shows only one patient, an 18-year-old female, refused medical attention.

The San Luis Police Department (SLPD) is still investigating the circumstances of why the accident occurred.
