Two local brothers, the Keans, wanted to better the community by offering steady, practical loans to help their neighbors achieve that American dream — owning their own home.

The Compassus program serving Yuma and the surroundin­g areas is proud to recognize Thelma Franklin and all hospice volunteers during National Volunteer Week April 23-29 for providing companions­hip, support and dignity to hospice patients and their loved ones.

In 2016, Franklin completed 169 patient visits, totaling 235 hours to provide companions­hip and short-term respite for Compassus patients and their families. She has been volunteeri­ng at Compassus since June 2007.

“We are proud to recognize Thelma for her efforts to honor life and offer hope to individual­s facing life-limiting illnesses by supporting them with compassion, integrity and excellence,” said Amberly Davis-Owens, executive director for Compassus — Yuma. “Volunteers like Thelma help make our mission a reality here at Compassus, and we are fortunate to have her as a part of our care team.”
