Scholarshi­p recipients

Lisa Mendez, assistant director, and Dominique Sandoval, teen/Spanish outreach, both received a $1,500 continuing education scholarshi­p from the Friends of Yuma County Libraries. The scholarshi­ps were offered to Yuma County Library District staff who are working on their Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Informatio­n Science (MLIS) degree.

Funds are raised through ongoing book sales in the Friends bookstore in the Main, San Luis, Heritage and Somerton Branch libraries. The Friends advocate, volunteer and raise funds for Yuma County public libraries.

Local residents inducted into selective honor society

Local residents were recently initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society in Baton Rouge, La.

• Ivan Villa III, of Yuma, was initiated at Arizona State University.

• Jessica McLaren, of Yuma, was initiated at Northern Arizona University.

• Jordana Phipps-Arnett, of Yuma, was initiated at Northern Arizona University.

• Todd Pinnt, of Yuma, was initiated at Northern Arizona University.

• Calvin Williams, of Yuma, was initiated at Northern Arizona University.

• Lieren Hefner, of Somerton, was initiated at University of Arizona.

• Judith Castro, of Yuma, was initiated at University of Arizona.
