For the week of April 16-22, the Yuma Fire Department responded to 263 emergency calls, including:
• 6 general fire response
Including: 1 grease fire in an oven, 1 shed fire, 1 strong gas smell in a building, 1 illegal trash fire, and various alarms.
• 2 mutual aid
Including: Called to assist with a motor vehicle crash in Winterhaven, and assisted Rural/Metro with an emergency medical call in the county.
• 22 motor vehicle crashes
Including: 1 involving a pedestrian, 1 involving a rolled ATV driven by a 14-year-old, 1 involving a bicycle, 1 involving a motorcycle, 1 involving a wall, 1 head-on, and 3 involving 3 vehicles.
• 217 other medical emergencies (serious to minor)
Including: 18 difficulty breathing, 24 chest pains, 32 falls (including one from a horse), 7 unconscious people, 3 seizure cases, 9 possible stroke cases, 3 intoxicated persons, 7 for a person under the influence of drugs, 4 drug overdoses, 14 people with psychiatric problems, 7 medical alarms, 1 child locked in a vehicle, 1 allergic reaction, 16 altered or decreased level of consciousness, 1 broken bone, 6 diabetic emergencies, 1 unknown bug bite, 1 cat bite, 7 man down calls, 1 uncontrolled bleeding, 1 assault, 5 back pains, 9 abdominal pains, 1 pregnancy related, 1 drug withdrawal, 2 lacerations, 1 head injury from a 1-year-old knocked down by a playground swing, and other illnesses and injuries.
• 16 special duty, public assistance, and residential assignments
Including: 2 snake removals, 1 for people stuck in an elevator, 1 for power lines down, 1 person locked out of their house with food cooking on the stove, 1 vehicle fire, 1 trash can fire (started by grill coals), 1 low hanging power lines, 1 arcing electrical system, 1 for juveniles reported to be starting a fire in a park, and various alarms.
