Mara Knaub returns to the Yuma Sun as business reporter

-

Hello! Let me reintroduce myself. My name is Mara Knaub and I am the Comings and Goings columnist and a new reporter at the Yuma Sun.

I use the term “new” loosely, because I am actually more of a “returning” reporter. I previously worked at the newspaper from 2010 to 2014, when I left town for a job opportunity. But my husband and I always had the intention of coming back. The chance to return came around, and here I am!

Returning to the Yuma Sun is like coming home. I really enjoyed my time here before and it feels good to come back. I love reporting. I get to find out what’s happening in the community, mingle with residents and officials, and write about it — all things I enjoy!

I will be covering city government and business, and when I can, I will throw in a feature story. I always found the workings of government fascinating. I like to know how things happen. I will be covering all sorts of city events, such as Planning and Zoning, to keep my eye on development, and council meetings with the hope of keeping citizens informed with what’s going on.

As previously noted, I have taken over this column, but I need your help. If you know of a new business that has opened or will be opening or relocating, please let me know. Or if you know of a business that has closed or will be closing, please let me know about this as well. Email the information to mknaub@yumasun.com or call me at 928-539-6853.

I look forward to getting reacquainted with the community!

Now, for some business news ...

It’s always good news when a company announces plans for a new location in Yuma. Ultimate Air, with headquarters in Jonesboro, Ark., plans to open a park here in the first quarter of 2018. It expects to hire three full-time staff members as well as 65-70 part-time employees. Read the story in today’s paper for more details.

Pioneer Shopping Center, 11274 S. Fortuna Road, has been undergoing a lot of changes recently. The center is located on the southwest corner of the Interstate 8 interchange at Fortuna Road.

Radio Shack, located in Suite X, will be closing soon. It’s expected to remain open perhaps for another month, however, if all the fixtures and merchandise sell out before then, or if they’re just not selling, the store will close sooner.
