Fire House Facts

For the week of April 23-29, the Yuma Fire Department responded to 277 emergency calls, including:

• 7 general fire response

Including: 1 shed fire, and various alarms.

• 1 mutual aid

Including: Assisted Rural/Metro Fire Department with a fire involving multiple homes in the Foothills.

• 20 motor vehicle crashes

Including: 2 involving pedestrian­s (1 vehicle also hit a house), 1 involving a bicycle, 1 involving a motorcycle, 1 involving a house, 1 involving a pole, and 2 involving 3 vehicles.

• 229 other medical emergencie­s (serious to minor)

Including: 25 difficulty breathing, 20 chest pain, 36 falls (including a 4-yearold who fell from a shopping cart), 10 unconsciou­s people, 10 seizure cases, 2 possible stroke cases, 5 intoxicate­d persons, 3 for a person under the influence of drugs, 1 drug overdose, 13 people with psychiatri­c problems, 8 medical alarms, 2 for a child locked in a vehicle, 1 allergic reaction, 12 altered or decreased level of consciousn­ess, 1 fever, 4 diabetic emergencie­s, 1 unknown bug bite, 3 man down calls, 2 uncontroll­ed bleeding, 1 burn from heating grease, 3 bad headaches, 1 stabbing, 7 assaults, 3 back pain, 9 abdominal pain, 1 pregnancy related, 1 drug withdrawal, 1 laceration, and other illnesses and injuries.

• 20 special duty, public assistance, and residentia­l assignment­s

Including: 1 snake removal, 1 for people stuck in an elevator, 1 power lines down, 1 for juveniles who started several fires in a park, 3 vehicle fires (although one turned out to be the juveniles from park fire dischargin­g apartment complex fire extinguish­ers in the parking lot), 3 checking building stability after being struck by vehicles, and various alarms.
