P&Z set for hearings on proposed changes

- BY MARA KNAUB @YSMARAKNAUB

The Yuma Planning and Zoning Commission will hold four different hearings on various issues, including proposed changes to the city’s General Plan, Zoning Code and Street and Traffic Code during Monday’s meeting.

The first hearing is for a request by Cynthia Gastelum, on behalf of ABC Enterprises, for a conditional use permit to allow an indoor recreational use on the property located at 2589 E. 24th St., Suite 2. The permit would allow Rogue Wave Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to operate on the property, which is in a Heavy Industrial (H-I) District.

The second hearing involves a proposed change the Redevelopment Element, found in Chapter 6, of the Yuma 2012 General Plan. Specifically, the request calls for a change that would reflect updated redevelopment area boundaries, recently adopted redevelopment plans and current redevelopment efforts. This is the second of two public hearings for this request.

The third hearing involves updates to the truck routes listed in the city’s Streets and Traffic Code Text, found in Title 21, Chapter 211 (Sections 21 and 22).

The fourth hearing will focus on a request to change definitions in the landscape regulations (Title 15, Chapter 154, Article 20) of the Zoning Code “to emphasize the importance of trees to provide shade, reduce energy consumption, absorb storm-water runoff, and improve air quality.”

The meeting is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at City Hall Council Chambers, 1 City Plaza.
