Local Burger King restaurants to undergo renovations
The Burger King restaurants in Yuma will soon undergo major improvements, which should make fans of the Whopper happy. Not only will the three restaurants currently open go through complete renovations, two new restaurants will be built in Yuma County.
Shane Jacobs, a partner of Barnett Management, based in Phoenix, recently told me the company bought the three open Burger Kings in January and the new owners have big plans.
Barnett Management, in the hands of Jacobs, fellow partner Shelley Kristin and principal partner Tom Barnett, already owns 31 Burger King restaurants in the Phoenix area. The partners were also interested in buying and reopening the BK located at 581 E. 16th St., but they weren’t able to acquire the property.
However, “the goal is to build two more BKs,” Jacobs said.
When Barnett first bought the restaurants in Yuma, the partners first wanted to take care of the team members. Now they’re turning their focus to the buildings, which Jacobs described as “pretty dated,” with one of them 40 years old.
The BK at 16th Street and Avenue B will be entirely remodeled inside and out. During the project, the kitchen will be sectioned off to keep the drive-thru open for as long as possible. Then the entire restaurant will close for one week while the kitchen is redone.
“We don’t want to keep it closed longer than that. It impacts people’s (lives). Our team members rely on their paychecks,” Jacobs said.
Barnett will then turn its attention to the BK on Fortuna Road. This restaurant will also be remodeled, mostly following the same plan as the first project.
