Ice cream parlor opens, sub shop coming, hair salon closes

-

I’m excited about this! A new gift shop and ice cream parlor opened June 1. Coronado Gifts and Collectables is now serving ice cream and other goodies at 139 S. 4th Ave., just below Yuma Landing.

The shop will celebrate June 15 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. I’m sure we could all use a frosty treat to cool off!

This week I have news about one salon opening and another one closing. Laura Carter and Janine Gallegos have teamed up again and opened a quaint little hair shop called Bloom @224. It’s located downtown at (of course!) 224 S. Main St., Suite 13.

If you are looking for a change or just need a hairdresser, they would love to help you. It’s by appointments only. Call Carter 949-422-4733 or Gallegos at 928-261-9299.

In the Foothills, a longtime hairstylist has closed its doors. The last day Michelle Riley, owner of BJ’s Hair Care, 11242 S. Foothills Blvd., Suite 9, worked at the shop was May 31. She had been in the hair business for 27 years.

“I had a neck surgery four years ago, and it’s time for me to slow down and enjoy life more,” she wrote in an email.

“I thank my dedicated customers for your support and loyalty. I will miss seeing you weekly/monthly,” she added.

After nearly three decades of service, her customers will surely miss her as well. I hope she is indeed able “to slow down and enjoy life more.”

A reader let me know about another business coming to the Foothills. Jersey Mike’s Sub is scheduled to open Aug. 10 at 11231 Commercial Center Loop near McDonald’s.

Originally called Mike’s Subs, the shop first opened in the seaside town of Point Pleasant, N.J. The sandwich chain serves jumbo subs filled with cold cuts and toppings. The bread is baked fresh in stores every day.
