Wealth without worry
Financial resources have the capacity to buy pleasure. Wisdom records that wealth has the responsibility and potential for significant challenges. Paul the Apostle warned Timothy, a young minister, as written in 1 Timothy 6:9, “Those who crave to be rich fall into temptation” Jesus said in Mark 10:29-30, those who give up resources for his cause will be repaid “100 times in this life with persecution.” Riches are not a problem for God. He owns a city of streets paved with gold. God has made many people very rich.
There is wealth that provides benefits without negative consequences. In the past few days, we commemorated Memorial Day, and tomorrow we celebrate Father’s Day. These days bring memories. The pleasure provided by remembering does not require payment in hand. We do not need to measure wealth by the things we can hold in our hand, but by the things we have, we would not sell for anything.
Memorial Day we remembered sons, fathers, brothers, mothers, daughters, and sisters who gave the ultimate price for our country. They are worthy of us living to protect and defend what their lives were sacrificed to purchase.
Father’s Day is a time to honor fathers. Memories of my father are rewarding. Wise and thoughtful accurately describe him. A wise man was asked how he dealt with his difficulties. “How do I get through trouble?” He replied, “First, I try to get around it. If I can’t get around it, I try to get under it. If I can’t get under it, I try to get over it. And if I can’t get over it, then God and I just plow right through it.”
