Yulissa Aldana
Yulissa Aldana, a 2017 graduate of Kofa High School, won the Congressional Art Competition in Congressional District Arizona 03. She was contacted by the office of Congressman Raul M. Grijalva.
Her artwork will be recognized in Washington D.C. on June 29, and be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. Aldana, and one other person, will be flown to Washington D.C. for the official ribbon cutting ceremony.
During a reception held for all of the participants at the El Pueblo Neighborhood Senior Center in Tucson, she was announced as the winner.
Avery I. Almodova
U.S. Air Force Airman Avery I. Almodova has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San AntonioLackland in San Antonio, Texas. Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Almodova, the son of Nina Almodova, of Yuma, is a 2016 graduate of Gila Ridge High School.
Eden Muth
Eden Muth, of Yuma, has received a bachelor of science degree in computer science from Park University’s Luke Air Force Base in Parkville, Mo.
Connor Davis
Connor Davis, of Yuma, has made the dean’s list for the spring 2017 semester at Champlain College in Burlington, Vt. To qualify, students must achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher during the semester. Davis is majoring in business management.
Brenda Cervantes, library assistant I-youth services at the Main Library, has been chosen as the Yuma County Library District’s employee of the month for June. She received a mounted certificate, a name plate in the book of her choice, an employee of the month pin, and her photo will be hung at the Main Library during the month of June.
Dean’s list
Two local students at Bob Jones University have made the dean’s list for academic achievement during the spring 2017 semester at Greenville, S.C. To qualify, students must earn a 3.003.74 grade-point average during the semester.
