Robber targets 1st Bank Yuma
Police investigate possible tie-in to robbery
The FBI and Yuma police are investigating the Wednesday morning robbery of the 1st Bank Yuma, located at the corner of Fourth Avenue and 28th Street.
According to Officer Janet Sanchez, a white male entered the bank at about 10:24 a.m. and handed the teller a note demanding money.
The teller complied and the suspect left the bank and walked behind the building where he got into a blue passenger-type vehicle, and drove away in an unknown direction.
“I do not know what the note said, but he did receive some money,” Sanchez said. “No weapon was shown.”
The suspect is described as possibly being in his 40s with a long goatee beard, wearing a baseball cap, dark colored longsleeve shirt, and black sunglasses.
Sanchez did not know if there were any customers in the bank at the time, but no injuries were reported.
At around 6 p.m. Wednesday, Yuma Police arrived on scene at Yuma Home Park, located at 2550 S. Virginia Drive, for a possible tie-in to the robbery at 1st Bank Yuma.
According to Lt. Nate Dusek with YPD, at least two people were detained during the questioning, but no arrests were made. YPD is still investigating the incident.
