Woman who shot husband in face gets probation

Two consecutive 18-month terms ordered

Although she could have been sent to prison or ordered to serve time in the county jail, that is not the sentence the Foothills woman who shot her husband in the face received when she was sentenced Wednesday morning in Yuma County Superior Court.

Instead Paula Dianne Eure was sentenced to two 18-month terms of supervised probation, one for one count of endangerment per domestic violence and the other for one count of disorderly conduct per domestic violence.

“There has been a previous determination of your guilt based on your guilty pleas,” said Superior Court Judge David Haws. “It’s the court’s judgement that probation is appropriate.”

Haws then informed Eure that he was ordering that the two terms of supervised probation are to be served consecutively — meaning she must completely serve one of the terms of probation before beginning the other.

Eure pleaded guilty to the offenses last month as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors. In return for her guilty plea, charges of aggravated assault — causing serious physical injury, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon — against her were dismissed.

Haws also warned Eure that if she were to violate any of the conditions of her probation, or commit a new offense, she could be brought back to court, and if it is proven, possibly be sentenced to up to two years in prison for each of her offenses.

According to the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, on Dec. 12, 2016, deputies responded to Eure’s home in the 11400 block of 39th Lane at approximately 8:42 a.m. in reference to a shooting.

Eure allegedly told the deputies who responded to the scene that she had called 911 to report that she had shot her husband in the face with a handgun. Deputies found Eure’s husband lying on the floor of the master bedroom with a single gunshot wound.

The sheriff’s office also reported that Eure and her husband had been arguing the night before and that it had continued the following morning.

He was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center by Rural/Metro Ambulance and later flown to a Phoenix-area hospital. Eure was arrested and booked into the Yuma County Detention Center.
