Pen-pricks

• The CBO said the GOP health care bill would reduce premiums 30 percent and save $300 billion. Thirty million would lose coverage. There is an apple-a-day provision for poor people in the Republican health care bill, so I’m not sure what all the complaining is about.

• Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi led the Democratic opposition to the GOP health care plan. The hyperbole got way out of hand. No, the GOP health care plan does not bring back medicinal leeches and give them a trillion dollar tax break.

• President Trump hailed the Supreme Court decision that allows the administration to restrict the flow of people between terror-ridden nations and the United States. It doesn’t solve the humanitarian crisis. Just last week, Syria offered to take in 10,000 refugees from Chicago.

• The Supreme Court upheld Trump’s refugee ban from six terror-ridden nations. The administration has come up with a test to give refugees to see if they are culturally, economically and educationally compatible with living peacefully in America. It’s called the Bacon Sandwich Test.

We went to Texas Roadhouse for lunch Saturday, June 24. After placing our order, a server sat in the booth next to me. She said a couple celebrating their 11th wedding anniversary noticed us walking in holding hands, and they hoped their years together would be as long as ours seemed to be ... and that they would still be holding hands. They bought our lunch. What a lovely thing to do. We do hope they will be together, holding hands, as we have been for 66 years.

Dear young Marine, my wife and I noticed you, your wife and young daughter having a meal at the Red Lobster Friday evening about 6:30. We talked about the time I was in

Many thanks go to the Yuma Center for Spiritual Living, the Yuma Jewish Community Council, and the Littlewood Fine Art and Community Co-op for sponsoring and arranging for the Tzofim Friendship Caravan 2017 to stop by Yuma on Tuesday, June 27, during their American cross-country tour. This troupe of male and female teenage Israeli scouts provided two spectacular performances. They enthusiastically and interactively offered messages of friendship, peace and love through high-energy singing and dancing. What a wonderful trans-cultural buffet! Smiles, toe tapping and dancing were seen in the audience at the Historic Yuma Theater. I am encouraged to see local sponsors actively promoting the expansion of culturally diverse opportunities for our community. Additional thanks goes to the city of Yuma for providing an air-conditioned venue for the performances. Please keep this movement going!
