Supervisors’ plan could boost building reviews
The Yuma County Board of Supervisors will look at a resolution creating a “virtual building” program for the county when it has its regular meeting Monday.
The concept has been discussed over the last few years by the Greater Yuma Economic Development Corporation and at the city of Yuma as well as the county. The idea is to make it easier for manufacturers to construct buildings quickly if they meet certain requirements, as an incentive to locate here and create new jobs.
The county would establish an expedited review process for a standardized foot building for business that supports the agriculture, military or manufacturing industries. All fees would be deferred until the building’s certificate of occupancy is issued.
The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at the Board of Supervisors’ auditorium, 198 S. Main St., Yuma. Other items on the agenda include:
• Approval of the county Workforce Development Board’s selection of ResCare Workforce Services as the federally mandated One-Stop Operator for adult and dislocated worker services at Yuma County’s Arizona@Work locations, on a one-year, $1.3 million contract.
The Kentucky-based corporation was one of two bidders for the contract, the other being Goodwill Industries of Central and Northern Arizona.
• Follow-up on the the board’s discussion regarding the Yuma County Recorder’s Office and Elections Division Improvement Plan presented in December, which proposed renting or buying new equipment and making other changes in hopes of shortening lines at election day voting centers.
• Approval of two contracts to Cactus Asphalt for the fall chip-sealing project, one for the district west of Mohawk Pass at $1.2 million and the other covering areas east of Mohawk Pass, for $1.1 million.
• Award a contract for $736,623 to Grey Mountain Construction LLC for asphalt overlay on Avenue 3E between County 14th and 16th streets.
• Approval of changes to 13 different county personnel rules.
