From July 2-8, the Yuma Fire Department responded to 241 emergency calls, including:

• 10 general fire response

Including: Tree on fire, fire in an apartment wall, gas smell in a residence, an air conditioni­ng unit smoking on a roof, a restaurant stove fire extinguish­ed by a fire sprinkler system, and various alarms.

• 2 mutual aid

Including: Called to assist with a small brush fire west of the Ocean-to-Ocean Bridge on the California side of the river, called to assist with a structure fire in Winterhave­n.

• 10 motor vehicle crashes

Including: 1 involving a rollover, 1 involving a building, 1 involving a light post, and 2 involving walls.

• 203 other medical emergencie­s (serious to minor)

Including: 18 difficulty breathing, 22 chest pains, 17 falls, 10 unconsciou­s people, 4 seizure cases, 4 possible stroke cases, 5 intoxicate­d persons, 7 persons under the influence of drugs, 2 drug overdoses, 15 people with psychiatri­c problems, 4 heat illness/ dehydratio­n, 5 medical alarms, 1 for kids left in a vehicle, 2 allergic reactions, 6 altered or decreased level of consciousn­ess, 6 diabetic emergencie­s, 10 man down calls, 2 uncontroll­ed bleeding, 3 bad headaches, 1 stabbing, 1 gunshot wound, 3 poisonings (a person who swallowed bag of drugs, a 6-year-old who swallowed prescripti­on meds, and a food poisoning), 4 assaults, 2 back pain, 7 abdominal pain, 3 pregnancy related, 2 deceased persons, 1 eye injury from an exploding battery, 1 person pulled from the canal, 1 person who jumped into shallow water at the railroad bridge over the river, and other illnesses and injuries.

Including: 3 dumpster fires, 1 illegal trash burn, 1 gas smell in a house, 1 shopping cart on fire, 1 electrical shorting in a house, and various alarms.
