San Luis police arrest 4 burglary suspects

- BY JAMES GILBERT @YSJAMESGILBERT

Two adults and two juveniles were arrested over the weekend in connection to multiple burglaries, according to the San Luis Police Department.

The adult suspects have been identified as 33-yearold Jesus Arbizo and 23-year-old Ivan Vieyra. They were both booked into the Yuma County jail on several felony charges relating to a residential burglary and the theft of a vehicle.

San Luis police responded to a report of a residential burglary in the 200 block of Independence Street at about 8 p.m. on Friday. The suspects took multiple household items and stole a vehicle from the residence.

A few hours later, the vehicle was located by the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office at the 300 block of May Avenue in Yuma, and the suspects were arrested.

The following Saturday morning, San Luis police responded to a report of a residential burglary that happened at the 1900 block of Udall Lane, which involved three juveniles whose ages ranged from 15 to 17 years of age.

A short time later, officers responded to the 300 block of Los Tres Hombres and then to the 1500 block of Liberty Street regarding more burglaries. Evidence gathered at these locations were able to link the juveniles to these crimes.

Lt. Victor Figueroa of the San Luis Police Department said officers were able to identify the juveniles from video surveillance footage from security cameras at homes that had been burglarized.

San Luis police were able to locate and arrest two of the three juveniles, who were booked into the Yuma County Juvenile Justice Center. The third juvenile remains at-large.

“We are still looking for a third juvenile,” Figueroa said. “We know who he is.”

Figueroa said he didn’t think the residential burglaries the adults allegedly committed were related to the three burglaries the juveniles are accused of committing.

He added that they are waiting for fingerprint results to determine if the suspects can be linked to any other burglaries.

San Luis police recommends that all home and business owners install a security system, if possible, as a way to provide added protection from thieves.
