• President Trump attended the U.S. Women’s Open Golf Championship at his Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey. It was a chore in a way. Trump made the deal to host the tournament a few years ago when he thought it’d allow him the chance to crown America’s most beautiful golfer.

• Conservative author Ann Coulter made news when she threw a fit over Delta Airlines bumping her from a flight and costing her $30. Her complaint was met with overwhelming public scorn. You know you have a likeability problem when the American people are siding with the airline.

• Al Gore is making the rounds of TV talk shows to promote his new apocalyptic climate change documentary, An Inconvenient Sequel, which is released next week. He kids himself for his wooden personality. Al Gore remains an inspiration to every American who suffers from Dutch Elm Disease.

• The California Legislature is preparing a bill that would make California a sanctuary state for illegal immigrants from being deported by federal agents. Don’t blame the immigrants. Migrant workers don’t ask for much, they just want the same temporary worker program that Congress enjoys.

I recently attended a memorial celebration at St. Thomas Mission and was amazed at the numerous congregation. I had never seen that church so “packed” that the choir loft had to be utilized.

It certainly was a beautiful tribute to Father “Rusty” Monoham who was pastor for over 27 years. He was truly loved by all who came to know him. His wit and sense of humor during his services drew people to him.

I have been thinking about how our Yuma community always seems to join together in their charitable means in helping others in need, no matter what, who, or why. It brought to mind how our clergy from Immaculate Conception, St. Francis and St. John Neumann churches all contributed their service to St. Thomas Mission during those days when Fr. Rusty could no longer preside at Holy Mass. Although he was in pain, he would manage (with assistance) to make a brief appearance and wave to his congregation.

This clergy from Yuma continued to preside after Fr. Rusty’s demise and during the weeks following until a new pastor was assigned to fill Fr. Rusty’s shoes.

This is an example of Fr. Rusty’s discipleship — to love, share and give of oneself for others. He, too, at times would serve at Immaculate Conception Church when there was a need. It has been difficult for many of us who came to know him and sat through those 45-minute homilies. His strong sense of trust and belief was exemplified through his homilies.

Littlewood Fine Art and Community Co-Op is writing to say THANK YOU to the City of Yuma!

July 21st marks three months since we opened. In that time we have worked with the city administrator, the mayor and city council, arts and culture, zoning, building inspectors, the fire marshal and YFD, and Chief Lekan and YPD. Everyone has been helpful, prompt, and professional. Most importantly, everyone we’ve worked with has done so with a neighborly, “community-building” attitude — never an “Us vs. Them” mentality.

That’s good for business and good for Yuma. They’ve really helped us turn an old warehouse into a thriving place for art of all kinds — for ALL YUMANS. The police department has even sent a number of uniformed officers to drop in on our events, at our invitation, to ensure that both YPD and the community at large know that everything and everyone is safe and sound. We can’t count the number of Junior Officer stickers they’ve passed out to the kids in attendance!

Thank you, Yuma! We couldn’t have done this without you!
