Tucson police officer accused of off-duty domestic violence

TUCSON — A Tucson police officer has been arrested in connection with an off-duty domestic violence incident involving a weapon.

Police officials announced Monday that Michael Sauber has been placed on imposed leave with pay.

They say Sauber is a probationa­ry employee with a hiring date of April 2016.

Police say the department began both criminal and administra­tive investigat­ions into Sauber’s conduct in the incident that allegedly occurred Friday.

They say Sauber was taken into custody on suspicion of domestic violence/ aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct.

He was booked into the Pima County Jail on Sunday.

Police say their investigat­ion is ongoing and they didn’t release any details of the alleged incident.

It’s unclear if Sauber has a lawyer yet for his case.

Mesa Community College assistant football coach dies after bar fight

PHOENIX — Authoritie­s say a Mesa Community College assistant football coach has died after a fight outside a Phoenix sports bar.

Phoenix police say 44-year-old Benjamin McIvor was involved in an altercatio­n with a 47-year-old man outside the bar around 10 p.m. Saturday.

They say McIvor fell and hit his head on the ground during the fight.

McIvor was taken to a hospital, where police say he died.

Police say the other man involved in the fight left the scene, but later was contacted by authoritie­s.

They say he’s cooperatin­g in the investigat­ion. The man’s name hasn’t been released yet.

Mesa Community College officials say McIvor was the defensive line coach and special teams coordinato­r and was entering his third season with the team.
