One man was taken into custody and two others were detained after a six-hour standoff in Somerton, Yuma police said.

According to a Yuma Police Department news release, detectives were scheduled to serve a search warrant on a residence in the 100 block of West Canal Street.

The warrant was in reference to a fraud-scheme case and the detectives had probable cause to arrest 37-year-old Alfredo Ibarra if located at the home, police said.

Prior to YPD detectives arriving at the location, the release stated, Border Patrol agents had an incident with Ibarra that led them to the 100 block of West Canal Street, where Ibarra reportedly fled into the residence.

After YPD was contacted and informed of the incident, the department’s Special Enforcement Team was activated at 12:08 p.m. to deal with a barricaded subject.

YPD said that a perimeter was set up around the home and announcements were made for the occupants to come out.

At 2:18 p.m. two male subjects reportedly exited from the back of the residence, YPD said, and both were detained. The two were taken into custody by the Border Patrol.

Police confirmed at that time that Alfredo Ibarra was still inside the home. Officers tried to coax him out. After no response, gas was deployed into the residence.

Officers then made entry into the home at 6:11 p.m. and Ibarra was taken into custody without incident, police said.

He will be booked into the Yuma County Detention Center.

Jerry Cabrera, assistant superintendent with the Somerton School District, confirmed to the Yuma Sun that Somerton Middle School was on lockdown for a time during the incident.

Other agencies that assisted YPD during the standoff were the Yuma Sector Border Patrol and the Somerton Police Department.
