Lots of options out there to learn about candidates

Three seats are open for Yuma City Council

-

Did you catch the Yuma City Council candidate forum Thursday morning by the Yuma County Chamber of Commerce?

The chamber asked the Yuma City Council candidates to answer 10 questions in advance. Then, the chamber tailored specific questions for the candidates to answer during the forum, based on their responses to the 10 advance questions.

The forum was held at the Arizona Western College 3C building, and it was wonderful to see every seat was full. That’s great news, because in an election, it’s critical that voters do their homework, and learn as much as possible about the candidates before voting.

For this upcoming primary election, that’s easier than ever to do.

The Chamber forum was broadcast live on KBLU 560 AM and taped for showing later on Cable City73, so if you are interested in hearing what the candidates had to say, you still have an opportunity to check it out. The Yuma County Chamber of Commerce also took the advance questions and position statements, and posted them online on its website, at www.YumaChamber.org (click Events, find Aug. 29 – Election Day, and click Read More).

The Yuma Sun also asked candidates a separate set of questions, which have appeared on the pages of the newspaper over the last few weeks, and are on a dedicated page in one place at http://www.yumasun.com/ site/election.html — click on the candidate’s name to learn more.

And for readers who want to know a little more, visit the city of Yuma’s website, which lists the candidates’ campaign finance filings, including campaign contributors: http://www.yumaaz.gov/city-clerksoffice/political-action-committees/statement-of-organization.html.

Voters, now is your chance to help shape the future of the city of Yuma. Three city council seats are open, and the candidates chosen to fill them will help determine Yuma’s course for the next four years.

Take the time and do your research. Check out the candidates’ websites or social media pages, and read their thoughts and position statements.

And then, please, get out and vote on Aug. 29.
