P&Z Commission to talk accessory structures
The Yuma Planning and Zoning Commission will meet on Monday to consider a change to the city’s code that would limit the size permitted for accessory structures. Examples of accessory structures include storage sheds, workshops, outdoor barbeques and outdoor fireplaces. Garages are not subject to these regulations.
This proposed amendment is to ensure that no accessory structure becomes a nuisance to the neighbors or those living within the surrounding area, according to a staff report. Currently, the code does not limit the size of an accessory structure. The proposed amendment would limit the size of the accessory structure to be no larger than 50 percent of the size of the principal dwelling located on-site.
In other action, the commission will consider a General Plan amendment request by the city that would change the land use designation from Medium Density Residential to Mixed Use for 1.2 acres located at 1401 and 1411 S. Avenue B.
This is the second of two public hearings. This item has been continued from the meeting of July 24.
In addition, the commission will consider a request by Jesus Ortiz to rezone 14,802 square feet from the Low Density Residential District to the Transitional District. The property is located at 1606 S. 6th Ave. This it has also been continued from the meeting of July 24.
Also on the agenda is a request by Premier Storage Condominiums of Yuma Unit 2 LLC for approval of the final plat for Phase VI (Building 3) of the Premier Storage Condominiums of Yuma Unit 2 Subdivision, Phases III thru VIII. This 2.05 acre commercial condominium subdivision is proposed to create 66 storage condominiums in one new building. The property is located at the southeast corner of East 32nd Street and Avenue 3 3/4E. This item has also been continued from the July 24 meeting.
