AWC board may OK STEDY, library agreements at meeting Monday
Arizona Western College’s district governing board, also known as the Yuma-La Paz Counties Community College District, will meet Monday on the Yuma campus.
The Aug. 21 meeting kicks off the first regular meeting of the college’s governing body for the school year. The board will meet at 3 p.m. in the Frances Morris boardroom, which is in the Schoening Conference Center.
The board will welcome several new employees to the college district, including Shahrooz Roohparvar, the new vice president for Finance and Administrative Service. Student Government President Chase Wiles will also address the board for the first time.
Board members and the top administration at AWC will also hear several reports from various campus groups, including faculty, represented by Matthew Smith, and the classified employee association represented by Junior Castro. Dean of Campus Life Mary Kay Harton will address the board before introducing Wiles. Board member Maria Chavoya will also give an update on the business of the Association of District Governing Boards as the board’s representative to that panel. Linda Elliott-Nelson will introduce the Student of the Month.
Members of the public may address the board only during the Call to the Audience. Persons interested in doing so should make arrangements with interim Executive Assistant to the President Corrine Gray.
Under its action items, the board may approve contracts for new hires and hear a review of open positions from Human Resources Chief Kari Gardner. The board may also consider appointing Roohparvar to be its representative on the Yuma Area Benefits Consortium.
Roohparvar is also recommending the board review and approve the investment principles of RBC Global Asset Management, LLC., a global investment firm with offices in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia.
The board may also approve renewing two intergovernmental agreements, one with the Parker Public Library for library support services and the other with Southwest Technical Education District of Yuma (STEDY) for educational programs, and ratify vouchers from July and early August.
The president’s cabinet will also give reports. Elliott-Nelson will give the learning services report, Roohparvar will address finance and administrative services, Dean of Communication and Marketing Lori Stofft will brief the board on the strategic plan and other news items, and Vice President for Student Services Bryan Doak will speak.
The board’s meeting date, time, and location are subject to change, per the college’s website, though those changes will be communicated through local media should need arise. Members of the public who need an accommodation to observe the meeting should contact Gray at 928-344-7501 or corrine.gray@azwestern.edu as soon as possible.
