What would you do with Powerball?

Jackpot over $700 million is hard to fathom

-

Do you have Powerball fever? The estimated jackpot for tonight’s lottery game is a staggering $700 million — the second largest in U.S. history, the Associated Press reports.

The amount is the annuity option, which would be paid out in 30 payments over 29 years, the AP notes. If the winner opts for the cash option, the winner would receive $443.3 million.

Either way, the amount of potential winnings is mind-boggling. What would one do with that amount of money?

One could be responsible, pay off debt, buy a home, build an amazing swimming pool, save money for college for one’s children, and then invest the rest. One could travel, buy a new car — really, one could buy a new car for several family members.

One could quit one’s job, or turn one’s attention to philanthropic efforts, trying to make a difference and impact change in one’s community — or on a state or national level.

Or one could get a little more … extravagant. One could get a personal jet, racehorses, yachts (although maybe not anchored in the Colorado River!) or one could invest in a major sports team.

In fact, last year, Time listed a variety of items one could purchase after a big lottery win.

The silliest (or maybe most delicious?) was a donut that costs $100 a piece — covered in Cristal champagne icing and 24-karat gold, made by a restaurant in New York. We’re guessing one would need to buy several, so everyone could try it.

The odds of winning are quite slim — one in 292.2 million, the AP reports. One has a more likely chance of matching the five regular balls, missing the Powerball, and winning $1 million — with odds at one in 11.7 million. Still, it’s fun to dream, isn’t it?
