ADOT announces farm-equipment road restrictions

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Farm-equipment operators who are crossing the Colorado River by using 4th Avenue and Winterhaven Drive in Yuma must drive through the area at specific times to avoid long delays, as Arizona Department of Transportation crews improve the 4th Avenue Gateway area.

Northbound drivers heading from California into Arizona should come through the area from 11 a.m. to noon weekdays.

Southbound drivers entering Arizona can drive through the area between noon and 1 p.m.

There will be no restrictions on weekends.

The restricted area is between 1st Street and Interstate 8. Flaggers will be on site to assist farm equipment through the area.

Drivers of other kinds of vehicles should consider an alternate route, such as 16th Street, to reach I-8 during these times.

ADOT is making improvements to the 4th Avenue Gateway area, including adding a right-turn lane and a 10-foot-wide shared use path from 1st Street to the Yuma Canal Bridge, along the east side of 4th Avenue. The project also includes improved lighting, new signage, landscaping and rehabilitating the Yuma Crossing concrete historic land marker. Work is scheduled to continue through November.

Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors. For more information, please call the ADOT Project Information Line at (855) 712-8530 or email Projects@azdot.gov.
