SAN PASQUAL

-

Pineda said.

Of his nine players with experience, only two of them have played since before last season.

Friday’s game started off looking like a blowoutin-waiting. Salome jumped out to a 26-6 lead.

Then, the game started to resemble more of a video game in the second quarter.

The Frogs and Warriors traded off scoring touchdowns on every possession, with the total for the 12-minute quarter reaching nine touchdowns. The longest gap between scores was two minutes and 37 seconds. At the end of the first quarter, the scoreboard read 26-12. At halftime, it was 64-40.

“Offensively, we came back stronger than I thought we would’ve,” Pineda said. “But we gave up too many quick scores.”

After Salome returned the opening kickoff in the second half for a touchdown, there were four total touchdowns scored, compared to 14 in the first two quarters.

San Pasqual senior quarterback Victor Alvarez finished the night with three passing and three rushing touchdowns. Sophomore wide receiver Josh White caught all three of those throws for scores.

“Josh is stepping up,” Pineda said. “Victor had some other receivers last year he favored a little bit more because he was used to them. Now, he’s understanding that Josh is there and capable of making some of these plays. It’s just that we need to have one or two of these other receivers step up. We need to be able to spread it around a little bit more.”

The Warriors are on the road next week at Bagdad, another 1A West opponent.
