Lawyer in the Library, a new, free program now being offered by the Yuma County Superior Court, gives people an opportunity to receive legal advice they might otherwise be able to afford.

Offered in partnership with Community Legal Services, these series of ask-a-lawyer clinics will meet on the first and third Wednesdays of the month and will address Family Law and Landlord Tenant issues.

According to organizers, the goal of the program is to inform and provide assistance to people representing themselves in court because they can not afford to hire an attorney.

The ask-a-lawyer clinics will be held at the Yuma County Law Library, located inside the historic courthouse at 250 W. 2nd Street, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and offer people the chance to have one-on-one, 15-minute meetings with a volunteer lawyer.

The attorney will be able to provide people with general legal advice about their case and review their paperwork to make sure it is in order and completely filled out.

Registration is required, so anyone interested in attending one of these clinics needs to sign up in advance by calling (928) 817-4165. You must also call in the day before to secure a spot.

Spaces are limited, so no sign-ups will be taken the day of the event. The next clinic will be held on Aug. 20.
