Man killed crossing train tracks in Flagstaff early Monday

FLAGSTAFF — Authoritie­s have identified a transient who was killed after being struck by a train in downtown Flagstaff.

They say 40-year-old Sheldon Negale died early Monday.

Police say witnesses reported seeing a man walk onto the tracks with his head down in an area without railroad crossing arms.

Deputy Chief Dan Musselman says Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway has confirmed the lights and train horns were working at the time.

A train struck and killed another man last Friday.

Musselman says 66-year-old Anthony Ortiz was walking across the tracks after the crossing arm went up for an eastbound train. Shortly after, the arm began lowering for a westbound train.

Musselman says Ortiz had been walking slowly and didn’t make it across. Ortiz is described as a semi-transient.

Tucson police investigat­e woman’s death as possible homicide

TUCSON — Police in Tucson say they’re investigat­ing the death of a 50-year-old woman as a possible homicide.

Officers were called Sunday afternoon to check on a woman who was spotted in an alley about three miles north of downtown Tucson.

They found a woman with apparent trauma and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police on Monday identified the woman as Jennifer Ann Wilson.

Police still are looking for suspects in the case.

Utah baby dies from head injury in Arizona boating accident

NAVAJO CANYON — Authoritie­s say a Utah child has died from a head injury after a boating accident near Navajo Canyon.

Glen Canyon National Recreation Area officials say the accident occurred Sunday evening when a houseboat was trying to dock on a beach about 12 miles from Antelope Point Marina.

When the boat struck the beach, authoritie­s say an adult fell on the six-month-old boy.

The boat had 13 people on board at the time including several small children. The injured child was given emergency first aid at the scene and transporte­d to Page Hospital and then to Salt Lake City Children’s Hospital.

Authoritie­s say the child died early Monday.

The name of the boy wasn’t immediatel­y released but the family lives in Bluffdale, Utah.

MCSO: 3 malnourish­ed horses seized from a woman in New River

PHOENIX — Maricopa County Sheriff’s officials say three malnourish­ed horses have been seized from a woman in New River who says she was relying on transients to take care of the animals.

They say the woman hasn’t been arrested, but she could be facing three counts of animal cruelty charges for failing to provide medical treatment. The owner of the horses says she knew they were sick and underweigh­t and admitted they hadn’t received medical care in at least 18 months.

The horses have been turned over to Durango Equine Veterinary Clinic.
