Students get chance to design billboard

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Students across Yuma Union High School District have an opportunity to showcase their own designs for display on a local billboard.

In partnership with Lamar Outdoor Advertising of Yuma, the billboard design contest started this week and will last through Oct. 16. The contest is open to all students attending school in YUHSD.

Winners will be selected for each campus with submissions voted on by the student body. The six winning designs (one from each YUHSD campus) will then be featured on one of Lamar’s digital billboards with the top design also receiving positioning on a traditional billboard.

The theme of the contest is# Ready andRelentless. Students are charged with designing a billboard that shows their campus is both career- and college-ready and have been relentless in their pursuit of education.

“Lamar Outdoor Advertising of Yuma is thrilled to be partnered with the Yuma Union High School District and Ready Now Yuma, with our donation of billboard advertising space to showcase artwork of our local students,” said Raul Espinoza, vice president and general manager of Lamar Outdoor Advertising. “... Lamar prides itself of not only being the industry leader, but also a company that gives back. This is the family motto we live by at Lamar throughout 155 offices stretched across the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada.

“For the participating students, this gives them an opportunity to not only utilize their creative skill, but at the same time gives them insight into the process of digital advertising. As we lean further towards the digital realm in outdoor advertising, these students will have an opportunity to a part of a company that is at the forefront of this future. For Lamar, we have an opportunity to be a part of these student’s paths to success.”
