P&Z to amend bicycle comprehensive plan

- BY BLAKE HERZOG

The Yuma County Planning and Zoning Commission will hear a request to formally initiate an amendment to the county’s 2020 Comprehensive Plan regarding bicycles and bicycle routes at this week’s meeting.

The comprehensive plan’s current circulation element states it should be a county priority to “encourage road design, construction or reconstruction to better accommodate bicycle and pedestrian traffic,” but lacks any guidance on how to do that for cyclists.

The meeting begins 5 p.m. Monday at the Aldrich Auditorium in the Department of Development Services building, 2351 W. 26th St., Yuma. Also on the agenda:

• A special use permit request for Old Souls K9 Rescue and Retirement Home at 11262 S. Holland Ave, near Yuma. This case is detailed in an article in today’s edition of the Yuma Sun. See page A1.

• Rezoning of 10.24 acres from Rural Area-10 acre minimum to Suburban Site Built-2 acre minimum, on County 13th Street at the alignment of Avenue 4 1/2E.

• Rezoning two properties totaling 10 acres from Rural Area-10 acre minimum to Suburban Site Built-2 acre minimum at the southeast corner of Avenue A and County 17th St., near Yuma.

The commission will make recommendations on these cases, which go to the Board of Supervisors for a final decision.
