A criminal complaint was filed Monday in Yuma Justice Court against the man who allegedly robbed the Burlington Coat Factory, charging him with two felony offenses and one misdemeanor.

Appearing in Yuma Justice Court for his arraignment, 23-year-old Kiko Luna was informed by Justice of the Peace Greg Stewart that the two felony offenses were armed robbery and unlawful flight from pursuing law enforcement.

The misdemeanor offense Luna was charged with was shoplifting.

Attorney Kris Moe of the Yuma County Public Defender’s Office, who was only representing Luna for the hearing, waved the formal reading of the complaint and further advisement of his rights.

She also entered not guilty pleas on his behalf for each of the charges.

When asked if she would like to be heard on conditions of release, Moe said she did not have any of the information from the case yet, so asked that it remain at the $75,000 it had been set at during a previous hearing.

Stewart also informed Luna that his case would likely go before the grand jury in the next few weeks to determine if there is enough probable cause for it to proceed to Superior Court.

If it doesn’t, Stewart said, then he would return to Justice Court for a preliminary hearing, which he scheduled for 4 p.m. on Oct. 13.

According to Yuma police, at approximately 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4, officers responded to Burlington Coat Factory, located 3020 S. 4th Ave., for a report of an armed robbery.

The suspect, however, had already fled the scene in a white Pontiac Bonneville, and was last seen heading toward 4th Avenue.

Yuma police were later able to determine the suspect’s vehicle was registered to an address in Winterhaven, and notified the Quechan Police Department.

A short time later a Yuma police officer spotted the suspect vehicle crossing the Ocean-to-Ocean Bridge into California and YPD dispatch advised Quechan PD and the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office that the vehicle was in the Winterhaven area.

Yuma police say the suspect vehicle was located by law enforcement and crossed back over the Ocean-to-Ocean Bridge into Yuma.

The suspect took off and fled on foot after the suspect vehicle crashed into another vehicle in the 100 block of S. Main Street.

The suspect was located and taken into custody. There were no injuries in the wreck.

The suspect was identified as 23-year-old Kiko Luna and he was booked into the Yuma County jail on multiple charges.

YPD encourages anyone with any information about this case to call their department at (928) 373-4700 or 78-Crime at (928) 7827463 to remain anonymous.
