Kris Rivers (9 kills, 7 service points) and the Kofa volleyball team pulled off a 6-15, 15-9, 16-14 upset over Yuma High, which entered the match with a 10-1 record while the Kings were just 3-8. The Criminals, who were led by Moniki Daniels, went on to make the AAA state semifinals that year, which was their last state appearance until 1999. No Yuma County volleyball team has reached the semis since that 1987 season.
