5:30-7 p.m. Cibola High School Library Topic: Guardianship — Learn about the different legal options families should consider when their child becomes an adult at the age of 18. Become familiar with the steps of the guardianship process. Participants will learn how they can stay involved in decisionmaking with schools, doctors, and other professionals.
Nov. 16
5:30-7 p.m. Gila Ridge High School Dining Hall
Topic: Positive Behavioral Support — Learn how to reduce unwanted behavior and increase good behavior by using Positive Behavior Supports in your home/ community. Understand the role you play in your child’s behavior, and how to work with the school when behaviors get in the way of learning.
Jan. 25 (2018)
5:30-7 p.m. Vista High School Cafeteria Topic: Transition — This workshop explains the IEP transition planning process which should begin for students no later than 16 years of age. Discover how to identify classes, activities, and services that help prepare students with disabilities for higher education, vocational training, employment, and additional resources that help with planning for adult life.
Feb. 22
5:30-7 p.m. Yuma High School Cafeteria Topic: Journey to Adulthood — This workshop gives parents information on how to get ready for when their child goes through puberty and adolescence. Parents will learn about the physical, emotional, and social changes that come during this time of their child’s life. Parents will learn the skills and tools to help them through their child’s journey.
March 22
5:30-7 p.m. Kofa High School Cafeteria Topic: Transition Fair — Participating transitional organizations such as Vocational Rehabilitation, Department of Developmental Disabilities, and Social Security will be on hand to offer information regarding transition from the high school setting to the workplace, community, and/or postsecondary education.
April 26
5:30-7 p.m. San Luis High School PAC Topic: Transition Fair (Repeat presentation) — Participating transitional organizations such as Vocational Rehabilitation, Department of Developmental Disabilities, and Social Security will be on hand to offer information regarding transition from the high school setting to the workplace, community, and/ or post-secondary education.
