One of the two men arrested in connection to multiple burglaries in San Luis was sentenced to prison Wednesday in Yuma County Superior Court.

Jesus Arbizo, 33, who appeared before Judge Brandon Kinsey, was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison and given credit for 109 days previously served for one count of burglary.

“The court determined probation was not appropriate in this case,” Kinsey said prior to sentencing. “A prison sentence is warranted.”

Arbizo, who was represented by attorney Julie McDonald, pleaded guilty to the offense in a plea agreement with prosecutors on Sept. 13. In return for his guilty plea, two charges of theft against him were dismissed.

According to San Luis police, at about 8 p.m. on July 14, officers responded to a report of a residential burglary in the 200 block of Independence Street.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the home had been broken into and multiple household items were missing. The suspects also stole a vehicle from the residence.

A few hours later, the vehicle was located by the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office at the 300 block of May Avenue in Yuma, and the suspects were arrested.

A co-defendant in the case, 23-year-old Ivan Vieyra, is undergoing a psychological exam to determine if he is mentally competent enough to stand trial and assist his attorney in his own defense.

Vieyra’s next court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 8 for a status conference.

San Luis police are also waiting for fingerprint results to determine if Arbizo and Vieyra can be linked to any other burglaries.
