A criminal complaint was filed Tuesday in Yuma Justice Court against a woman arrested following a shooting that happened on Friday afternoon in the area of 11th Street and 10th Avenue, in which two juveniles were also taken into custody.

According to court records, Irene Munson was charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a police officer and one count of resisting arrest. All three charges are felonies.

The incident happened at approximately 4:32 p.m. on Nov. 3, with Yuma police officers responding to the location for reports of shots being fired.

Yuma police say the initial investigation into the incident revealed shots were fired at a gray passenger car of an unknown make and model.

No injuries were reported and Yuma police took a 17-year-old male and 16-year-old male into custody afterward. The names of the suspects were not released, due to them being juveniles.

Court records identified Munson as the mother of one of the suspects, and the charges she is now facing stem from her attempts to allegedly prevent two Yuma police officers from arresting her son.

The arrest occurred at approximately 5:44 p.m. in the 1100 block of S. 10th Avenue. Munson allegedly struck one of the Yuma police officers twice with a closed fist on the right side of the chin, according to court records.

Court records also indicated she struck a second officer twice in the back of the head with her fist, causing the officer’s prescription glasses to break.

Munson, who is out of custody, is scheduled to return to Yuma Justice at 4 p.m. on Nov. 22 for a preliminary hearing.

No other information on the shooting is available because the investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
