Donald Fisher December 20, 1939 - November 17, 2017

Don Fisher, 77 of Yuma, Arizona passed away Friday, November 17, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family and friends after a long and courageous battle with Cancer. Donnie was born December 20, 1939 to Gladys McPhaul Fisher and Jesse Woods Fisher. He attended 2nd Avenue School, 4th Avenue Jr. High and graduated from Yuma High School, Class of 1957. Don spent his weekends and summers working for his parents at Fisher’s Landing. During the summer vacations of his Sophomore and Junior years of high school, Don attended Mercury Outboard Mechanics School in Surfside, CA. where earned the first of several technical certifications at the age of 17. Upon graduation from Yuma High, Don briefly attended ASU before returning home and then attending Mercury Outboard Marine School in Denver, Colorado graduating with his Master Mechanics Certification at the age of 18. Don married his high school sweetheart, Joni Beeson, on March 24. 1961 and together they had 3 children. Don and his business partner, Swede Ferguson, bought Fisher’s Landing from Don’s Parents in 1970. This partnership lasted until 2005 when they retired and sold the business. Don was an avid outdoorsman, loved trap shooting and was a lifetime member of the Yuma Valley Rod & Gun Club, and the Elks Club. He held memberships in the NRA and Masonic Lodge. Don and Joni spent their summers in Nutrioso, Arizona enjoying the home they built together. Don is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joni, his 3 children, Donna Johnson(Ted), Jon Michael Fisher(Betsi), and Tori Bourguignon(Chris). He had 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Stanley (Christian), Kelsey Scherr (Scott), Jessica Johnson, Grady Bourguignon, Kaylee Bourguignon, Bailey Fisher, and two great grandchildren, C.J. Stanley and Cora Stanley. Don was preceded in death by his parent, Jess and Gladys Fisher. Funeral services will be held Monday November 27, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Desert Valley Mortuary, 138 North Avenue B, Somerton, AZ with private graveside service to follow. Fr. Chris Orndorff officiating. Pallbearers are Mike Fisher, Ted Johnson, Chris Bourguignon, Grady Bourguignon, Scott Scherr, Christian Stanley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Leon Wilmot, Verlon Lee, Mark Jeffery Welter, Blake Smith, Ronnie Moore, Igor Ivanoff, Greg Brown, Charlie Bush. Reception and Celebration of Life will continue at the home of Donna & Ted Johnson 17310 S. Avenue D. All family and Friends are welcome.
