Woman injured in crash at Avenue B, County 19th St.

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

One person was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center following a crash in Somerton on Wednesday morning.

According to a Somerton/ Cocopah Fire Department (SCFD) news release, personnel responded to a motor vehicle collision with injuries at 7:03 a.m.

Upon arrival, officials with SCFD said they found a dark gray crossover vehicle with front end damage and a white sedan with damage to its driver’s side quarter panel.

The driver of the gray crossover vehicle stated that she was southbound on Avenue B going eastbound, when the white sedan pulled out in front of her at a stop sign at County 19th Street, the SCFD news release showed.

Avenue B does not have a stop sign at that intersection, the release stated. SCFD personnel said although the driver of the crossover vehicle was able to initiate braking, she was unable to avoid striking the white sedan on its driver’s side quarter panel.

Somerton Cocopah Paramedics evaluated the female driver of the gray crossover vehicle after she stated that she had pain to her neck, back and left arm.

As a precaution, she was placed into a cervical collar. She was transported to YRMC.

SCFD personnel said that the driver of the white sedan refused treatment and transport to YRMC.

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident.
