Academic Decathlon Scrimmage urgently seeking judges

The annual Yuma Union High School District Academic Decathlon Scrimmage is seeking judges for Friday, Dec. 8.

The scrimmage helps students prepare for Arizona’s regional competitio­ns which take place in February. This week’s scrimmage is from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Yuma High School.

“It’s an amazing event and really showcases our students’ academic talents,” Yuma High School assistant principal Gaudelia Castro said.

The mission of the Arizona Academic Decathlon Associatio­n is to promote, motivate and acknowledg­e excellence in academic efforts and educationa­l achievemen­t through a program of academic competitio­ns for high school students of all scholastic achievemen­t levels. Students compete in 10 areas: art, economics, essay, interview, literature, mathematic­s, music, science, social science, & speech.

“We need judges for Friday, mostly, but we also need help Saturday morning to help proctor written tests, and assist with the Super Quiz in the afternoon,” Castro said.
