- BY AMY CRAWFORD SUN STAFF WRITER

Tuition and fees will be among the topics discussed and voted upon at Monday’s Arizona Western College governing board meeting.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. Monday in the Francis Morris Boardroom of the Schoening Conference Center on AWC’s Yuma campus. The meeting is open to the public, with the exception of any executive sessions. None are planned for this meeting, but the board reserves the right, under Arizona law, to convene such session to seek counsel from its attorney or to discuss personnel actions.

Members of the public may address the board during the “call to the audience” on agenda items or any area of concern that falls within the district’s jurisdiction. Board members are prohibited by the state’s open meeting law from discussing, considering or acting on items raised during the call to the public. Individuals are limited to a five-minute presentation.

Board members will hear from AWC President Daniel Corr’s cabinet on assumptions of the college’s finances for the upcoming school year; a new mission and vision statement; marketing and public relations efforts; learning services (academics); the college’s foundation; and student services. The board may take action on the budget, mission and vision statement, a revised tuition and fee schedule; vouchers; and candidates for exempt positions.

Dr. Joann Chang is slated to give a faculty report, and Junior Castro will present news from the classified employees association. Board member Maria Chavoya will give an update of the monthly meeting of the Association of District Governing Boards to which she represents AWC. SGA President Chase Wiles will update the board on student programs, clubs and events, and Dr. Linda Elliott-Nelson will present the student of the month.

Information items on the board’s agenda are available for public view in the Office of the President in the Schoening Conference Center. Members of the public who need an accommodation in order to observe the meeting should make arrangements with the president’s office before the meeting begins.

The board’s next meeting is tentatively scheduled for 9 a.m. Jan. 22 in the Francis Morris boardroom on AWC’s Yuma campus.
