Cibola All-Americans headline weekend wrestling results

Crims beat defending D-III state champs

The Cibola wrestling team had a strong showing this past weekend at the Reno Tournament of Champions. The Raiders produced a pair of All-Americans in sophomore Aaron Gandara, a secondplac­e finisher, and senior Tommy Mommer, who was fourth. As a team, the Raiders finished 16th out of 138.

The Yuma High wrestling team ended up finishing in third place at the Mountain View Marana tournament, defeating defending Division III state champion Show Low, 45-34, in the third-place match on Saturday. The Criminals also beat Basha (60-21) and Chino Valley (6318) on Saturday, and now are 24-1 in duals on the season.

Individual­ly for the Criminals, Oscar Vega (285) took first; Jonathan Ruiz (120) and Erick Cervantes (152) took third; Levi Martin (106), Aidan Irwin (160), Servando Campos (170), Jacob Sanchez (182) and Shane Garcia (220) took fourth; Mario Bugarin (113), Jose Bugarin (132) and Jayden Dobson (220) took fifth; and Christian Gomez (138) and Carlos Nunez (195) took sixth.

For the Kofa wrestling team at the ECI tourney, Carlos Urias (152) took second; Isai Alonso (126) took third; Juan Alvarado (113) and Aaron Valenzuela (120) took fourth; and Ricky Caudillo, Jose Rascon (195) and Amilcar Perez (285) took sixth. The Kings finished fifth out 59 as a team.

At the Parker multi, San Pasqual went 3-1 with wins over Laughlin (30-24), Antelope (42-12) and Parker (36-12) and a loss to Lake Havasu (42-16). Nicholas Steele (152), Jacob Roosevelt (182) and EJ Espinoza (285) all went undefeated.

Paris Montague (13 points) and Brianna Arriaga (12 points) led the way for the Warriors (6-0 AIA) in their Monday night victory.
