Pen-pricks

• The Pentagon is reportedly planning a small-scale raid on North Korea to discipline Kim Jong Un into ceasing nuclear and missile testing. We have other ways to humiliate him. It’s rumored we have a cruise missile that can fly into the presidential palace and give Kim Jong Un an adult haircut.

• The White House hailed the GOP tax-cut bill’s passage Friday for finally allowing oil drilling in Alaska’s North Slope. It was slipped into the bill. Last month, the West Wing underwent major redecorating and renovations, but they are still having trouble getting Dick Cheney out of the carpets.

• Disney World reportedly upped their security at the newly renovated Hall of Presidents to keep protesters from shooting paint balls at the Trump robot. Disney should charge an extra $20 to people who want to fire paint balls at Trump’s robot. They can call the exhibit Donald Duck.

• North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un addressed the North Korea’s People’s Congress last week and vowed that his ICBM missiles can reach and destroy Los Angeles, New York and Chicago. The North Koreans can’t be stupid enough to attack Chicago. Surely they know they’d be outgunned.

Totalitarian countries like the Soviet Union emerged from communism with some bad habits.

The so-called socialist countries like China, Russia, Vietnam and Cuba all believe that it’s their destiny to spread socialism.

Political science professors in our universities teach that if all countries were socialist there would be global peace.

All one has to do is look back in history to find that this idea is a fallacy.

Lest we forget Nazi Germany was socialist. When Hitler was asked why he invaded Russia he exclaimed they weren’t socialist enough.

In 1977 socialist Vietnam invaded socialist Cambodia with the help of socialist Russia.

Socialist leaders since Vladimir Lenin have always believed that if they just had one more piece of territory they could make socialism work. Tens of millions of human beings have died in this quest to make socialism work.

Today President Trump is sending arms and ammunition to the Ukraine to stop the advance of another Russian land grab. In 1998 the Soviet socialist government collapsed. Unfortunately, many of its leaders like Putin are stuck in a social time warp. In 2008 Russia invaded Georgia annexing about 20 percent of it. The United States did nothing, so today Georgia has 10,000 Russian troops on its soil.

Georgia and the Ukraine could’ve saved themselves lives, in brief, if they had belonged to NATO. This

The guest column for Dec. 19, was pure delight as it portrayed the pathetic puppy that was “rescued” and loved even when it didn’t know how to respond or trust. The segue to the gospel and how we are so much like that pathetic pup was masterfully done.

Jim Meek’s letter on Dec. 20, was a powerful social commentary. The language we learn is the language we think in and if the language is imprecise and indefinite our thinking is the same way. If our language is “mushy” we can’t relate to reality very well. We are more comfortable in the “virtual” world and might have trouble relating to the real world where there are fixed laws of nature that we all must deal with.

If you want to eat, get a job instead of sponging off of your overly indulgent parents. If you want to have a real social life, get your head out of Facebook and spend time with people face to face. If you want to experience the real joy of Christmas, learn to be a blessing to those less privileged than you, especially if you can do it anonymously.

You will inject “magic” or Christ’s blessings into someone’s life.

Merry Christmas y’all.
