New year, new plan … There’s still time to switch
Last month, I wrote about the new service plan options available to APS customers, and I hope you’ve taken the time to find the new plan that’s right for you. If not, there is still time. But, know that by May 1, all current residential service plans except for grandfathered solar plans will be discontinued.
Between Feb. 1 and April 30, 2018, all APS residential customers who have not yet selected a new plan will be transitioned to the new plan that is most like their current one.
If you have not selected a plan before Feb. 1, you will receive a notification about 30 days prior to the transition.
Even after you receive a 30-day notification, you will still be able to change your plan — which we encourage you to do, since you know your household’s habits better than anyone. Whether you’re looking for the ultimate in convenience or want to maximize energy savings, you can find a plan to fit your needs.
You might even find that by making a few minor adjustments to when and how you use energy during the day, you could see some savings on your bill. Some customers are finding that pairing the new service plans with devices such as smart thermostats and smart plugs can help them save even more.
While absolutely not necessary to achieve savings on our new service plans, smart thermostats provide increased flexibility, allowing customers to control their thermostat anywhere, anytime. Studies suggest that smart thermostats can produce electricity savings ranging from 8 to 15 percent of a home’s cooling and heating costs.
Similarly, smart plugs enable customers to control various small appliances and electronics remotely. They make it easy to turn devices on and off and monitor energy use from a smartphone or tablet.
