YC girls soccer tops River Valley

The Yuma Catholic girls soccer team passed its first true region test of the year with a 4-0 victory at River Valley on Friday.

Ariana Leamons, who was coming off a five-goal performanc­e Tuesday, scored all four of the Shamrocks’ goals in this win. Averi Davis assisted on three, and Natalie Camarena one.

YC improved to 6-0-1 overall and 2-0 region with the victory, and will play River Valley (2-3-2, 1-1) on Jan. 23 at home.

PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL Skyline 55, Kofa 51 (OT)

The Kings (4-6 AIA) pushed the Coyotes (5-6) to overtime but came up just shy of their second straight victory. Jyannell Guerrero had 17 points, while Keiley Sharp had nine, Jocelyn Weber had eight and Lalani Bullbear had 7.

Mary Amador, who scored 27 points the night before in a win over Tohono O’odham, led the way again Friday with 18 points. Paris Montague added 10 points for the Warriors (8-2 AIA).

YC 48, ASU Prep 17

Sydney Neumann (15 points, 10 rebounds) had a double-double for the Shamrocks, while Taylor Walton chipped in 13 points, and Joy Morris had six points and eight assists.

PREP WRESTLING Valenzuela, Urias reach semis

Kofa’s Aaron Valenzuela (113 pounds) and Carlos Urias (152) made it to the semifinals after day one of the Flowing Wells Invite on Friday. Juan Alvarado (106), Ricky Caudillo (120), Isai Alonso (126), Daniel Rios (132), Anthony Morales (138) and Amilcar Perez (220) are in the consolatio­n bracket.
