Fire House Facts
During the week of Dec. 31 to Jan. 6, the Yuma Fire Department responded to 340 emergency calls for service, including:
• 7 general fire response
Including: An apartment fire started by discarded smoking materials that was extinguished by the building’s sprinkler system, a brush fire on the East Main Canal, a travel trailer fire, a mattress on fire in an alley, and various alarms.
• 2 mutual aid
Including: Called to assist Rural Metro with 2 medical emergencies in the county.
• 19 motor vehicle crashes
Including: 1 involving a house, 1 involving 3 vehicles, 2 involving pedestrians (1 hit by a golf cart), 1 involving a bicyclist, and 1 involving a semi-truck.
• 289 other emergencies (serious to minor)
Including: 39 for difficulty breathing, 22 for chest pain, 45 for falls, 22 for unconscious people, 7 seizure cases, 6 possible stroke cases, 4 for intoxicated persons, 1 for a person under the influence of drugs, 3 drug overdoses, 17 for people with psychiatric problems, 1 for dehydration, 5 for medical alarms, 2 for allergic reactions (1 of those a reaction to heroin), 20 for altered or decreased level of consciousness, 3 for fevers, 5 for diabetic emergencies, 1 for a dog bite, 5 for man down calls, 3 for uncontrolled bleeding, 1 for burns suffered after putting water on a grease fire, 5 for bad headaches, 4 for assaults, 2 for back pain, 10 for abdominal pain, 2 pregnancy related, 4 for deceased persons, 2 for lacerations (1 a teenager who punched a TV), 1 sports related injury, 1 for an industrial injury with a hand caught in machinery, 1 for a person struck by a forklift, 1 for a person locked inside a port-a-potty, and other illnesses and injuries
• 23 special duty, public assistance, and residential assignments
Including: 1 for a dog stuck between a fence and a shed, 1 for a backyard debris fire, 2 for powerlines down, 1 kitchen fire, 1 for a discarded Christmas tree on fire, 1 for a small brush fire, 1 for a small ammonia leak, and various alarms.
