According to the Yuma Police Department, officers responded to a report of gunfire on Friday morning.

Sgt. Lori Franklin said the incident took place at approximately 8:36 a.m. in the 1600 block of South Arizona Avenue.

“It was also reported that the suspects were leaving the scene in a gray Toyota passenger car,” Franklin said.

As officers arrived on scene, they spotted a vehicle matching the description and attempted to perform a traffic stop using lights and sirens.

Franklin said the vehicle sped away and crashed into an apartment building in the 2000 block of Walnut Avenue.

Three subjects fled on foot, but were all eventually located and detained.

Damage to the building is estimated at $20,000. There were no reports of any injuries as a result of this incident.

The driver, a 17-year-old male juvenile, was booked into the Yuma County Juvenile Justice Center for unlawful flight, criminal damage, criminal trespass and endangerment.

The other two individuals were interviewed and released. This case is still under investigation.
