Police seek man who tried to lure teen

Incident happened at Cibola High School

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Yuma police are searching for a male suspect who reportedly tried to lure a young girl to his house or car on Wednesday night at Cibola High School.

According to a Yuma Police Department’s news release, at approximately 7:20 p.m. a 14-year-old female was sitting on a bench near the main entrance of the school, located at 4100 W. 20th St., when an older male approached her and asked her for her name, phone number and if she wanted to go to his house or his car.

Yuma police say the teenager declined his questions. Then, when he reportedly walked back to his vehicle, the girl saw an adult known to her in the parking lot and went to their vehicle, the release shows.

When the male subject saw her go to another vehicle, he got into his vehicle and left the parking lot, YPD said.

The subject is described as a 5 feet 8 inches-5 feet 10” inches, medium-build, possibly Hispanic, 45-50 years old, with short dark hair and a mustache. He was wearing a blue shirt and black pants.

The vehicle is described as a red or burgundy 4-door passenger car, possibly a Ford, with an Arizona license place.

YPD said that there was no physical contact between the male subject and the teen and no injuries were reported.

The victim did not know the suspect, police said.

The case is currently under investigation. YPD encourages anyone with any information about these incidents to please call their department at (928) 373-4700 or 78-Crime at (928) 782-7463 to remain anonymous.
